Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services to help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. This role sits within Supply Chain Operations (SCO), which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail, and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
About the role (External)
Lead day-to-day depot activities, manage personnel and associated productivity, safely and effectively. Direct the team with a view to continual improvement in business performance, process, and overall efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
1. Manage the correct deployment of plant and personnel (including competencies, training, and assessment of staff) at the depot and manage the engagement and development of individuals within the team.
2. Liaise with the National MHD Production Manager and deliver requirements for the Depot including procurement of various goods and services.
3. Monitor and undertake replenishment of stock levels (including vehicle-based items) in depot to provide the required equipment/materials, whilst maintaining efficient stock and cost controls.
4. Oversee and promote the safe and efficient delivery of work activities; associated productivity, resource, and production targets in accordance with company procedures and current legislation.
5. Monitor general health & safety issues, develop Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures to improve working techniques and reduce accident statistics.
6. Provide input to the planning process.
7. Carry out safety inspections and checks of the materials processing activities in line with current standards.
8. Assist in local investigations regarding materials processing where required and follow up identified actions.
9. Assist in the identification of and manage the implementation of safety, quality, and efficiency improvement initiatives for materials processing activities.

Essential
1. Able to manage a team and motivate team members.

4. Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
5. Able to coach, influence and develop others.
6. Knowledge of depot safety rules and regulations.
7. Knowledge of factors and activities critical to depot management.
8. Knowledge of relevant railway geography and network capability.
9. Knowledge of welding and grinding materials management processes, systems, and standards.
10. Knowledge of budget management and cost/waste processes and techniques.
11. Able to work under pressure.
12. Computer literate.
13. Competent to undertake banksman duties and implement relevant procedures.
Desirable
1. Experienced in managing a busy yard.
2. Experienced in dealing with varying types of plant.
3. Experienced in dealing with permanent way materials and grading of sleepers, rails, etc.
4. Fully qualified First Aider.
5. Personal Track Safety (PTS).
6. IOSH Managing Safely Certification.
