Are you a passionate and experienced Genomics Scientist looking to make a significant impact in the field of clinical diagnostics? EMQN CIC, a UKAS accredited Proficiency Testing Provider, is seeking a dedicated Principal Scientific Programme Manager to lead our team in delivering high-quality, ISO17043 accredited genomics-based External Quality Assessment (EQA) services.

EMQN is the leading global provider of quality assurance tools and knowledge to the human molecular pathology and genetic testing community in the form of External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes, also referred to as proficiency testing (PT). This assures the best possible clinical diagnostics test execution, accuracy, performance, interpretation, and reporting.
The Role
The Principal Scientific Programme Manager will be responsible for leading a small team of Scientific Programme Managers and Administrators helping to deliver our EQA services to 2500+ laboratories in 89 different countries, whilst ensuring ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations. The role requires a scientist with a strong background in genomics and significant experience in a related clinical field and/or EQA. You will be required to contribute to the development and implementation of EQA services that improve the global quality of patient care, engage in research and development activities (including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences), and support and contribute to the delivery of other educational activities, including webinars and best practice guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team of scientists in delivering specialist EQA services, such as Molecular Genetics, Molecular Pathology or Pharmacogenetics.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of EQA services that improve the global quality of patient care.
* Engage in research and development activities, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
* Offer technical scientific advice in relevant areas of service delivery.
* Supporting and contributing to the delivery of other educational activities, including webinars and best practice guidelines.
* Ensure adherence to quality standards required for UKAS accreditation.
Who You Are
* A genomics scientist with a first or second-class honours bachelor’s degree in a biological sciences subject which includes a genomics component.
* Significant experience as a Genomics Scientist in laboratory medicine and/or EQA.
* A team player with good leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
* A desire to make a difference to patient care.
* Happy with a hybrid working arrangement with at least 2 days per week in the EMQN CIC office in Manchester, UK.

Qualification Attainments
* First or second-class honours bachelor’s degree in a biological sciences subject which includes a genetics/ genomics component.
* Masters or equivalent level of experience including expert knowledge of research methodology is required for this post.
* Appropriate professional registration as a registered "Clinical Scientist" (or equivalent for non-UK applicants) to a relevant recognised body (for example Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS), or Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Certificate of Equivalence, or equivalent non-UK organisation).
Previous Experience
* Significant experience in post as a Genomics Scientist in an appropriate role in laboratory medicine and/or EQA, with proven experience at a senior level of responsibility.
* Proven record of achievement in research, development, and audit activities, through presentations at national or international conferences and publications in peer reviewed journals.
* Significant in-service experience and knowledge of the specialist theory and practice of EQA (including scheme design, data analysis and interpretation) as required for the provision of a comprehensive EQA service.
* Robust knowledge of genomic services in the UK and abroad.
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Comprehensive and proven up-to-date knowledge in genomics including analysis, interpretation, and reporting of diagnostic tests results.
* Practical experience of a wide range of techniques with evidence of experience in complex genomics techniques.
* Proven ability to communicate complex information to individuals, small and large groups of stakeholders.
* Proven project management skills (for example implementing a new service, planning a research project).
* Ability to gather and assimilate information e.g., literature searches and analysis of complex reports, use of internet and Office software (e.g., Word & Excel). Computer literacy is essential.
* Ability to analyse complex problems and evaluate solutions..
* Comprehensive and proven up-to-date advanced specialist knowledge of EQA.
* Experience of Audit, Appraisal and Risk Management.
* Ability to organise the training and work of others.
* Proven experience of staff performance management and appraisal.
* Good working knowledge of another European Language (German, French, Spanish or Italian).
