Main duties of the job
We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Advanced Oncology Therapy Technician to join the Dietetics/SLT/Therapies team working within the Acute Oncology Service. This role will be delivering a ward based project providing Allied Health Professional (AHP) driven holistic care to patients attending the Acute Oncology wards. You'll be working with the Therapy/Dietetics and SLT teams to help in the delivery of personalised care and rehabilitation needs of patients attending the unit. As this is a project the role is fixed term for 6 months supported by a senior AHP.
Job responsibilities
You will:
1. Work on the Acute Oncology Unit, under the supervision of a senior Allied Health professional (AHP) to provide evidence-based advice to patients.
2. Assist with nutrition screening, triaging of patient dietetic and SLT referrals and provide first line nutrition support advice.
3. Support patients with their therapy needs under the guidance of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
4. Complete administration tasks such as referral of patients for ongoing care needs, liaising with GP surgeries and primary care teams.
5. Provide training to ward staff and patients.
6. Manage your workload and own time effectively with regards to clinical priority.
7. Work within your own limitations and seek support from supervising AHPs when required.
8. Complete and analyze data collection for the project.
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone who is keen to learn; previous experience of working in oncology and working in an acute hospital setting is desirable but not essential. You must have experience of working in a healthcare setting. Good communication and organizational skills are paramount to this role. Full training and support will be provided.

* NVQ4 in a health or social care subject or equivalent level of experience.
* Relevant experience working in a healthcare, education or customer facing setting.
* Demonstrates the ability to acknowledge changes in the patient's physical/psychological needs and manage as appropriate.
* Experience working in an acute hospital.

Salary: £26,530 to £29,114 a year (pro rata)
