Job summary Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Colorectal Surgery. The successful applicant will be appointed to the Colorectal and General Surgery service at Good Hope Hospital and the Research degree will be registered with the University of Birmingham. The post will be particularly suited to ST3 or above applicants who are wishing to develop their research portfolio. Candidates taking time out of the surgical training programme are welcomed. You will be provided with an academic supervisor and be expected to register for a higher degree with the University of Birmingham (MD/PhD). A specific research project will be aligned with this post. Good communication and participant interview skills are therefore vital, as well as interest in EDI. Applications for external funding will be supported. The unit has a strong track record in surgical research, along with helping candidates complete higher degrees. Main duties of the job Clinical duties will include being part of the 1 in 8 general surgical registrar on-call rota(with the view of increasing this to a 1:9 registrar on-call rota, which is currently in review). The candidate will be expected to provide cover for elective activity which may include some outpatient clinic and elective theatre activity when required. The majority of time, when not doing on-call, will be spent doing clinical research. This clinical and research work will be based at the Good Hope clinical site and the University of Birmingham.
