Job overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for applicants to develop their skills in the area of Physical Health care for SMI population and also within the ECT treatment unit.
The Treatment Unit is looking to recruit a registered nurse who is passionate about high standards of clinical care. From our base at The Becklin Centre, we deliver ECT to patients twice a week to very good effect. Administering ECT is a very rewarding and valuable role within the Trust. We bring about positive outcomes for those patients whose condition has not improved with the use of other therapies.
We are also looking into research opportunities to trial other alternative therapies for those who are resistant to other forms of treatment. We are an accredited service, adhering to national ECTAS standards which we work hard to maintain.
You will be liaising and working alongside LTHT staff, gaining skills and knowledge of highly specialised clinical practices. We are currently implementing an anesthetic recovery nurse training package which will be delivered by LTHT. If keen, you will have the opportunity to embark on this 8 week program once the pilot has been reviewed and approved by both Trusts.
Main duties of the job
The Physical Health Monitoring and Improvement Team provide the Clozapine Monitoring and administration for service users within LYPFT, this includes learning new skills in blood taking and analyzing, physical health observations and monitoring tools including administration of medication based on these results. We also provide Depot administration for the WAA CMHT population in the form of clinics and some home visits where clinically indicated.
This is a weekday only role with some flexibility built in around your shift pattern (*must work Tuesdays and Fridays as a minimum). There is no direct Care Coordination or individual caseload. We work closely as a small team to implement best practice and produce positive outcomes for our patients. A driver and use of own vehicle for business purposes is essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Providing and supporting in the delivery of ECT – Will perform all roles required within ECT including treatment, recovery and front of house.
Organising and co-ordinating ECT list including triage of patients within the MDT.
Assessing patient mental health and cognitive function, documenting and handing over these findings.
Communication with referrers.
Communication with service users and other members of MDT.
Monitoring of Clozapine and Amber drugs.
Administration of Depots.
Performing Annual Physical Health Checks for SMI population including obtaining blood samples and performing ECGs.
Assessing service users for side effects in relation to medication and actioning this.
Assessing service users for changes in mental health and physical health.
Working closely with other teams.

Qualifications
* RMN/Degree/Diploma
Experience
* Experience of working with service users with severe depressive symptoms
Skills
* Effective communications skills with both service users and other professionals within the MDT
* Skills in use of physical health monitoring equipment and acting upon the findings.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the mental health and mental capacity act and how it relates to ECT
