About the Job
Overview of the Role of Project Worker To provide support to clients with a range of needs, including addiction, mental or physical health, welfare benefits, budgeting, and cultural/faith needs. To play a role in maximising the independence and skills of clients, including, where appropriate delivering life skills including hosting activities, events, client involvement and alongside accessing outside support services. To ensure that the project offers safe, secure and empowering clients to achieve their aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Meeting and consulting with individual clients in order to assess needs and plan support goals.
2. Overseeing that support goals set for all parties are met and reviewing those goals where necessary.
3. Accessing and liaising with other organisations and services to deliver appropriate care, support and advice for clients.
4. Attending casework supervision with the line Manager to review individual needs and cases and develop action plans in relation to caseload.
5. Maintaining detailed casework files, keeping accurate records of each individual’s needs and progress.
6. Creating and managing own correspondence, reports, keyworking and diary notes in relation to this task.
7. Compiling monitoring data and information as required for internal or external purposes.
8. Assisting in tasks necessary for the day-to-day running of the project including, but not limited to, social activities, provision of meals where necessary, reception/office cover, cleaning or minor repairs.
9. Giving direction to ancillary staff in the absence of management/supervisory staff on duty.
10. Monitoring the security and safety of the project, taking action as necessary to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained.
11. Ensuring that service users comply with the terms of their license or tenancy, and with any rules set by the project, liaising with senior staff as appropriate.
12. Attending internal team meetings and representing YMCA Brighton at external meetings, case conferences and reviews as appropriate.
13. Carrying out on-call duties which will be arranged on a rota basis and for which an additional sum will be paid.
14. Identifying and attending training as directed by the line manager.
15. Follow YMCA Brighton’s policies and procedures at all times, including, but not only, those relating to Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Confidentiality.
16. To respond to all reasonable instructions and guidance as these procedures develop further.
17. To follow YMCA Brighton’s Code of Conduct for staff, regarding workplace professionalism, at all times.
18. To report any concerns about the client’s well-being to a relevant member of staff, using correct workplace procedures.
19. To attend training, and meetings, and participate in supervision and appraisal, where requested.
20. Adhering at all times to Health & Safety policy, and procedures and to complete all training that is required to carry out this job in line with Health & Safety regulations.
21. To comply with all COSHH regulations and guidance concerning infectious, hazardous control substances at all times, this also includes PPE requirements.
22. To report any hazardous material/sharps &/or anything applicable under the hazardous definition and adhere to procedural guidelines and training on how to safely dispose of such.
23. Adhering to fire safety, working at heights and manual handling procedures and guidelines at all times.
24. To undertake any other duties which reasonably fall within the range and responsibilities of this post, as directed.

Requirements:
Knowledge and Understanding
1. A clear understanding of confidentiality issues.
2. A clear understanding of boundaries to worker/client relationship.
3. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the potential needs of homeless/vulnerable clients.
4. Knowledge of welfare benefits.
5. Knowledge of housing/mental health/community care services and processes.
Experience
1. Experience in a similar setting is desirable but not essential to this post. It is more important that applicants demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
2. Experience of providing advice and/or creating support plans.
3. Experience gained within a housing, support or residential environment.
4. Experience of liaising with outside agencies/professionals.
Skills and Abilities
1. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
2. Ability to produce clear written reports, records and letters aimed at a varied audience.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients, outside agencies and visitors.
4. Ability to work to own initiative and within a team.
5. Computer literacy to ‘Word’ level or willingness to develop these skills.
6. Ability to manage problematic, pressured or challenging situations.
