We are looking for a motivated Speciality Doctor to work within our busy tertiary Eye Emergency Centre. This is a full-time permanent post with the option of a fixed term role for the successful candidate.
The Eye Emergency service led by a consultant ophthalmologist and senior sister and supported by 2 specialty doctors, prescribing optometrists, nurses, health care assistants and a dedicated admin team, manages 30,000 patient attendances per year.
The candidate would form part of this team and be involved in DCC within the department as well as support for F2F and telephone triage, training education and service improvement. Candidates with fellowship level experience of Cornea or VR would be ideal for this role.

To work as part of the Eye Emergency team to deliver a tertiary level service to the local population. The Department manages almost 30,000 patients a year with a wide range of emergency and urgent pathology including surgical and medical cases as well as postoperative patients.
To work with the consultants, doctors, optometrists, nursing staff and junior doctors to deliver the clinical workload, training and education as appropriate.
In conjunction with the consultant, you will support the training and supervision of junior medical staff and nurses who work with him/her and will devote time to this activity on a regular basis. If appropriate, you will be named in the contracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctors on their careers.
You will be required to participate in medical audit and continuing medical education, as well as continuing professional development.
Postgraduate Teaching is held every Friday afternoon at Southampton Eye Unit, which specialty doctors and consultants attend.

Salary will be assessed in line with terms and conditions £59,175 - £95,400
Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview
