Nursery Chef/Cook Job Description
Purpose of post
As an experienced Nursery Chef/Cook, you must be organised, efficient, and able to manage diverse catering requirements effectively; ensure conformance to all food handling, environmental, and health regulations. You will work in consultation with the Nursery Manager and be responsible for the planning and provision of healthy and tasty meals for children under 5 years old, making sure each meal is age-appropriate while working with fresh ingredients and taking account of any special dietary requirements. You must also be able to meet all the different dietary requirements and be aware of various cultural events during the year which may require additional planning and preparation of special meals.
Qualifications
NNEB, CACHE level 3, NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent
With Experience and Skills in:
* Experienced in busy kitchens
* Honest, punctual, and reliable

* Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety & Food Hygiene
* Works well under pressure
* The ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Catering for 42 nursery children aged 6 weeks to 5 years
* Follow a four-weekly menu system cooking from fresh produce, and you may be required to provide meals for specific dietary requirements
* Identify and follow best practices within the kitchen
* Sterilise all work surfaces and sinks upon entering and leaving the kitchen each day
* Sweep and mop the floor before leaving the kitchen
* Take temperature readings of both fridge and freezer morning and afternoon
* Label all food clearly (e.g., prepared/use by dates)
* Check all kitchen equipment, keeping a daily record and reporting any repairs
* Ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, maintaining safety and cleanliness
* Ensure each individual child has their dietary needs met, providing incredible service to each family and creating a friendly relationship with all parents
* Ensure that the food and drink offered to the children is of the highest standard, according to nursery policy
* Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation
* Ensure that all individual dietary requirements are catered for in line with parental guidance
* Control, store, and rotate kitchen stock
* Collect and clean crockery, pots, pans, and cutlery using the nursery dishwasher
* Work as part of a team
* Ensure confidentiality at all times
* Follow and implement all policies and procedures set out by the nursery

* Assist by reporting to the Nursery Manager any hazard, accident, damage, or defect to enable appropriate and quick action.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: Up to £11.49 per hour
