Job Overview
We are looking for a HCPC registered BMS to join our Microbiology team. To provide patients with the highest standard of diagnosis and treatment by working as part of the Microbiology laboratory team supplying high quality, specialised microbiological analysis and surveillance.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide patients with the highest standard of diagnosis and treatment by working as part of the Microbiology laboratory team.
2. Responsible for the effective day-to-day running of key laboratory sections and defined sample benches within the laboratory.
3. Rotate through all areas of the Microbiology laboratory and support the 24/7 service rotas.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* BMS degree or above or equivalent qualifications and experience
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Registered with HCPC
* Fellowship of IBMS
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
* Working knowledge of laboratory bench areas
* Knowledge of safety, including infectious diseases, dangerous chemicals/gases and PPE
* Knowledge of laboratory computer systems or equivalent
* Ability to work accurately from written protocols
* Ability to use, control and maintain analytical equipment
* Ability to train and organise less qualified/experienced staff
* Highly developed physical skills to include the use of microscopes, pipettes, balances
Experience
* Recent post registration experience in microbiology
You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The postholder will have access to vulnerable people and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020, and a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be necessary.
