We have a great opportunity for a Design Engineer to join Electricity North West in Kendal.
Our role
As a Design Engineer, you will work as part of a team to design the more complex LV and HV overhead line and underground diversion, reinforcement, asset replacement, refurbishment, maintenance, network referrals and clearance issues on the Electricity North West’s Wood pole, Mural wiring and underground networks. As part of this team you will be responsible for producing approved designs that meet ENWL policies and industry specifications.
An emphasis will be placed on carrying out overhead line Refurbishment, Maintenance, and Asset replacement projects.
To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the things you could expect to do:
* You will manage the design phase on plant, multi vector, UVA and reinforcement schemes
* You will manage the design phase of the Overhead line maintenance and refurbishment projects requests from Engineers to ensure that design work packages are delivered on time.
* You will be responsible for the creation of scheme documentation, and when necessary the creation of design drawings using our mapping and data collection systems.
* Using our asset management tools, you will be interrogating and analysing the collected overhead line data and progress the works in conjunction with the design Technicians into a fully constructible project.
* You will work closely with our Design Technicians and Work Planners to prioritise all aspects of Maintenance; asset replacement and refurbishment works.
* You will communicate and progress elements of projects that need interaction with internal and external stakeholders e.g. BT, Street lighting authorities etc. that are impacted by our networks.
* Present schemes and process the financial approval.
What we’re looking for
To apply for this Design Enginner role, you will hold a minimum of a HNC in Electrical Engineering;. You will also require the following:
* Have an excellent working knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook with emphasis on Excel (essential);
* Have the ability to manipulate large volumes of data using advanced excel formulas and present results in various formats including graphically (essential);
* Be self-motivated and have a pro-active approach to problem solving (essential);
* Be a strong team player though willing and able to work using your own initiative (essential);
* Be an excellent verbal and written communicator (essential);
* Hold a full, valid UK driving licence (essential).
* Be capable of performing on-site surveys or earthing tests, some of which may be in remote locations and on uneven terrain such as country roads and fields;
* Be competent in the use of CAD, and / or the company’s drawing packages. (essential);
* Assess and triaging the more complex design issues both on site and from a desktop exercise
* Have a sound understanding of the principles of planning and design from LV up to and including 11kV;
* Be capable of producing simple HV/LV designs;
* Have experience of design, planning, costing and project managing work on small projects;
* Knowledge of the company’s’ financial processes and National and Company Technical Specifications
* Be accountable for delivery of own work to time, cost and quality.
* Be responsible for design accuracy of individual projects
* Extensive knowledge of planning and design from LV to 11kV;
* Have a high level of understanding of secondary network protection, embedded generation, interface to the 33kV systems design issues;
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of the company strategy and objectives relating to secondary network performance and investment;
* Be able to analyse / diagnose complex problems and choose suitable outcomes without precedents to guide decisions;
* Be able to provide technical supervision and co-ordination of small design project teams;
* Take complete responsibility for complex projects;
* Be able to give technical detailed advice to customers and other departments;
* Have extensive knowledge of financial programmed and National & Company Specifications;
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of policy and standards and the ability to design and prepare detailed specifications for all secondary network asset replacement and refurbishment schemes;
* Not require technical supervision;
* Undertake training as required of staff to equivalent level of authority/competency;
* Be responsible for the management of the design phase of programmes of work and design accuracy of individual projects;
* Be responsible for re-scoping and justifying cost variations to planned projects during construction
