Strategy & Regulation are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. The role involves supporting the development of YW's long-term strategy for wastewater hazardous substance treatment investment to enhance surface water quality in line with current and emerging environmental legislation. It includes driving catchment scale planning to identify opportunities for improved environmental outcomes and robust solutions, supporting technical experts in surface water risk assessment modelling for hazardous substances, microplastics, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The role also entails identifying risks and opportunities related to environmental regulatory and science issues, representing the company in national forums to influence and inform policy on hazardous substances, microplastics, and AMR wastewater treatment, and supporting the delivery of WINEP water quality obligations. Where you fit in: As our Environmental Advisor you will Understand and support regulatory interpretation and policy on hazardous substances, microplastics and AMR at national and local levels to minimise risk exposure and maximise opportunities for YW. Where appropriate, provide support for business level strategies Provide support to the business in development of periodic review submissions Work collaboratively with the EA and other stakeholders on the identification of risks and issues within waterbodies to inform the creation of the WINEP Lead and/or support environmental investigations in support of both capital and operational activities of the business such as the national Chemicals Investigation Programme (CIP). Provide advice to the business on the impact of new, changed and existing environmental legislation, where a precedent already exists Collect, analyse and interpret data and information in support of the activities of the Environmental Modelling team. What skills & qualifications you will need: Degree, in an appropriate subject Be able to support in complex environments working with technical experts and communicate complicated technical concepts. Numerate and has demonstrable ability to analyse and interpret environmental data Understanding of process and project management Ability to communicate effectively through written communications, presentations and in meetings. Strong interpersonal skills, which are used to effectively influence and negotiate on environmental regulation matters Develops and maintains effective internal and external relationships Able to prioritise own time and resources effectively Owns and has a positive attitude to solving problems Makes decisions on matters in their own work area Proven planning ability - identifying priorities and actions to assist in delivering results You will also benefit from having: Demonstrable technical experience / industry knowledge Understanding of environmental legislation matters, as related to YW's water and wastewater (incl. sludge) activities Working knowledge of Asset Management principles.
