Technical/Project Manager (Mechanical Bias)
A leading MEP Contractor is looking for an experienced Technical Manager (Mechanical biased Building Services Engineering) to join their project team in Leeds.
In this role, you will lead, own and manage the technical risk and opportunities within the business, from inception through to project completion and client handover, focusing on design optimisation, opportunity identification, and mitigation of technical risk. You will ensure technical compliance with works information, scope, project specification and legislation, undertaking technical management of both internal and external designs.
This would be a great opportunity for an experienced Design Manager, Technical Manager, Project Manager, or similar with a strong Mechanical background to join the company working on prestigious projects within the region.
The company offers flexibility of hybrid working with 3 days in the office. There would be a travel requirement within the region of work and on an occasional basis across the UK.
Day to day responsibilities:
1. Lead the technical engineering management on internally and externally designed projects to successfully achieve company, team, and individual objectives relating to the implementation of best value design, management of opportunities, and risk mitigation.
2. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development from a technical solution perspective.
3. Conduct regular independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs in accordance with the technical review process, ensuring that both internal and external designs are technically correct and represent best value and comply with all legal and contracted requirements.
4. Prepare monthly project reports for Senior Stakeholders highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and resource issues.
5. Advise on commercial progress against plan, any variances from plan, and the corrective actions being taken.
6. On external designs, take ownership of the completion of the responsibility’s matrix of the Engagement of Consultant Pack, ensuring that scope gaps are mitigated.
7. Build and maintain mutually beneficial customer, key supplier, and internal relationships. Promote the design team and actively seek out new opportunities.
8. Communicate proactively with project stakeholders to improve collaboration with operational teams.
9. Assist the Regional Design & Engineering Manager in the production of technical management fees for internally and externally designed projects.
10. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical management costs, values, and programme forecasts; seeking opportunities to suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability.
Qualifications
What you’ll need to demonstrate on application:
1. Extensive experience of mechanical building services design/technical management
2. Operational experience on project installation/project delivery
3. Good understanding of design and build, and traditional construction contracts
4. Significant experience of commercial management on design projects
5. Strong communication skills
6. I.Eng, MCIBSE, MIET, B.Eng (Hons) or equivalent (desirable)
