Current Pay Rate (July 2024):
£15.00 per hour – Monday to Friday
£16.00 per hour weekend rate
£11.44 per hour Night time rate
The Client:
Our client is an 18-year-old female who suffers the effects of Dystonic Cerebral Palsy due to complications at birth. This has affected her development, mobility, communication, cognition, and social and emotional development.
Care Regime:
Our client requires a female support worker to join her small team in the family home. This will involve taking an active role in her care alongside other support workers, under the supervision of appointed therapy professionals.
Working hours are FLEXIBLE BANK WORKER but can be expected to support 08:00 – 20:00 term time weekdays, 08:30 – 20:30 school holidays and weekends. Split shifts in term time are required Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 08:00 - 11:30/14:30 - 20:00 whilst our client is at college. Flexibility is required to cover for holidays and sickness.
A private case manager is involved working alongside the client and her family. A full induction training programme will be organised in order to familiarise the successful candidate with our client’s needs and complete training on her therapy programme.
The Responsibilities of the Support Worker:
1. To provide assistance with all of the client’s care requirements including showering/bathing, elimination, dressing and night care needs.
2. To administer medication as prescribed and to maintain associated medication records.
3. To prepare/supervise with her feeding regime.
4. To promote the client’s wellbeing and happiness.
5. To provide physiotherapy/hydrotherapy exercise and positioning as recommended by therapy professionals.
6. To provide assistance with all aspects of the client’s ongoing rehabilitation under the supervision of treating doctors and therapists.
7. To maintain a safe environment for the client, in the home and in all community-based activities (subject to completion of risk assessment training).
8. To follow the support programme agreed with the case manager, therapists and the client.
9. To be responsible for domestic chores linked with the client’s overall care, including laundry, ironing, and cleaning, and any additional tasks in the interests of providing a safe, clean and efficient environment.
10. To advise the family, or where appropriate the case manager of any concerns regarding the client’s physical and psychological health.
11. To use initiative when unforeseen events occur and the family/case manager are not directly available to provide guidance.
12. To work as a member of a small team responsible to the case manager and to ensure good communication, flexibility, and a consistent approach to care.
13. To attend support worker meetings and training sessions as requested.
14. To make a daily report following each duty regarding the client’s welfare.
15. To liaise with the case manager for annual leave requests and alerting the case manager of sickness that will prevent them working, in order that cover can be organised.
16. To report to the case manager regarding general progress and any incidents that give rise for concern.
17. To respect the privacy of the client. All matters relating to the client’s situation and family are to be treated as confidential and are not to be disclosed to a third party.
A full clean driving license is essential for this post. You should have a diploma in Health and Social Care level 2/NVQ or equivalent. The successful candidate will require 2 references and a full enhanced DBS check will be completed following acceptance of this position.

Appointment to the post is subject to satisfactory references, a clean enhanced DBS check and a completion of a 6-month probationary period.
