We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester. Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work-life balance.
About the role…
Blackfriars Priory is looking for an Events Assistant to join the frontline operations team to assist the delivery of their jam-packed programme of events.
Located in the heart of the city, Blackfriars Priory is a vibrant venue, hosting memorable events such as weddings, music, theatre, and cultural festivals. Every single day will be different. You will be responsible for setting up equipment and furniture for room hires, supporting the team to ensure that weddings are special and memorable, ensuring that our live events and festivals run to plan (and safely), and keeping Blackfriars presentable for our customers day-to-day. You will also support the bar team during busy events.
What we need from you…
We are looking for someone with experience in the events industry or within a cultural venue. Top quality customer service is an absolute must – we pride ourselves on delivering memorable experiences. You must be confident speaking to large groups, able to think on your feet, and remain calm, positive, and professional under pressure.
You will work under the supervision of a Duty Manager, with a Team Leader providing operational direction. You need to be prepared to step up and have the confidence to take charge if your Duty Manager is dealing with a situation in the venue. This is an active role, where you will be on your feet a considerable amount.
From time to time, you may be asked to work from another of Gloucester City Council’s cultural venues, including the Gloucester Guildhall and Museum of Gloucester. The role offers a great opportunity to gain new experiences. You will also be on an annualised hours contract, and we ask for flexibility from the role, but we can also be flexible should you have any other commitments.
What we can do for you…
For all your hard work, you will receive the following:
* Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
* Generous annual leave entitlement - 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years continuous service (FTE)
* An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)
* Regular job-specific training, career development, and qualification opportunities
* Supportive and positive working environment with regular supervision
* Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day
* Cycle to Work scheme (Salary Sacrifice - T&C apply)
* Discounted tickets for local events, and reduced rate use of GL1 facilities
* Access to employee-led networks such as Black Worker’s, Prism (LGBT+), Carers, Disability, and Young Employees Network
