Job Title: News Reporter Location: Preston (Hybrid) Hours: 35 hours per week The Role The news and business reporter will write, source and report on news and business stories in the farming sector, for Farmers Guardian’s weekly magazine, website, podcast and sister publications as required, reporting in to the head of news and business. You will be part of a small, tight-knit team, taking a digital first approach while maintaining the high quality of our print publication. There will opportunities to travel around the UK, and potentially internationally, to attend key farming events, visit farms to write features and cover conferences This role will be for 12 months as maternity cover and would suit a graduate or someone looking to get into agricultural journalism. Duties & Responsibilities Writing and sourcing news stories appropriate for the farming sector Generating and pitching ideas for and hosting podcasts for our weekly Farmers Guardian podcast and daily Farming in Five news updates Writing for both a print audience and an online audience Taking a digital first approach, thinking about how our content can be utilised for different mediums, including print, video and audio Travelling both nationally and internationally to report on events and conferences Creating longer analysis and campaign pieces to add value to our readers’ businesses Researching topics and guests for and hosting webinars and roundtable discussions Building relationships with key players within the sector, from high profile stakeholders to farmers and politicians to uncover stories About You Journalism qualification Farming knowledge is desirable but not essential, most important is a keen news sense Confidence conducting interviews with farming figures, both on the phone and in person Full UK driving licence Excellent writing skills Video skills, in front of and behind the camera Ability to work to deadlines We Offer An Excellent Package Including 25 days holiday increasing to 27 after two years An extra day off on your birthday Matched pension contributions up to 6% Employee Life assurance - x4 of basic salary Employee assistance programme Long service awards and employee of the month Employee discount scheme Employee referral scheme Exceptional career progression.
