MCS Group are delighted to be partnering exclusively with this governmental department in their search for an Accounts Assistant.
The role:
1. Assist with payroll processing, including data entry, timesheet checking, and payroll reconciliations.
2. Support payroll team with employee queries and updates (e.g., tax codes, hours worked, leave taken).
3. Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
4. Use Excel to manage, analyse, and report payroll-related data (vlookups, pivot tables, basic formulas).
5. Support with general accounts duties such as invoice processing, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking.
6. Help prepare payroll journals and assist in month-end reporting.
7. Liaise with HR and finance teams to ensure smooth payroll operations.
8. Assist with ad-hoc finance tasks as required.
The Person
As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:
Essential
1. Payroll experience.
2. Experience of working in a busy, varied finance function.
Desirable
1. Account NI experience.
2. Accounts Technician qualification or working towards.
3. Public sector payroll/accounts assistant experience.
