Job title: Nursery Deputy Manager

Purpose of post
1. To work under the direction of the Manager and deputise for him/her as and when required.
2. To support the aims and objectives of the nursery and assist the Manager in the organisation of a high-quality establishment for children from birth to five years.
3. To provide high standards of care and early learning, including monitoring and reviewing provision, ensuring a safe, caring environment for the personal, emotional, social, and educational development of children.
4. To support the team in providing an enabling environment for all individual children to play, learn, and develop.
5. To direct and support staff as agreed by the Manager.
Responsible to: Nursery Manager
Main duties
1. To promote the aims and objectives of the nursery.
2. To be a role model to staff, particularly in modelling positive interactions with children during free play and structured activities.
3. To promote high standards of the nursery at all times to parents, staff, and visitors.
4. To assist the Manager in showing parents around the nursery facilities and sending out information.
5. To ensure the provision of high standards of physical, personal, social, and emotional care.
6. To lead a team of professional workers and ensure good practice at all times.
7. To assist the Manager in setting and implementing objectives and policy for the nursery.
8. To adhere to and support all team members in understanding and following the legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
9. To be aware of the Early Years Inspection Handbook for Ofsted Registered provision.
10. To assist with the planning and organisation of staffing schedules and holiday rotas to maintain adequate staffing levels in accordance with Ofsted guidelines and nursery procedures.
11. To assist with the implementation of administrative procedures involved with registration, place allocation, and other related matters.
12. To assist with the development and implementation of systems to monitor and record child development.
13. To assist with the preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment.
14. To be responsible for health and safety standards appropriate for young children, ensuring staff compliance and awareness.
15. To ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
16. To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the individual needs of children, regardless of disabilities, family backgrounds, or medical history.
17. To support all team members with the early identification and intervention for children with possible special needs, providing guidance as appropriate.
18. To ensure confidentiality of all information received and shared.
19. To assist with staff development and training.
20. To support the effective interview and selection process as required.
21. To fully support the induction of new team members.
22. To support appropriate supervision meetings/processes in conjunction with the Manager.
23. To contribute to appraisals, target setting, and nursery operations as deemed appropriate by the Manager.
24. To attend nursery management meetings and relay appropriate information back to the wider team.
25. To assist the Manager in supervising the training of students in placement within the nursery.
26. To liaise with parents, family members, and staff to ensure that the particular needs of children are met and that parental choice is considered.
27. To liaise with outside agencies as required.
28. To assist the Manager with the upkeep and maintenance of the building and grounds, stock of equipment, furnishings, and fittings.
29. To maintain staff awareness of fire evacuation procedures in accordance with the code of practice.
30. To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g., training, planning meetings, monthly staff meetings, parents evening, fundraising events, etc.
31. To deputise for the Manager in his/her absence.
32. To undertake other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as determined by the Manager.
