Job Description
Your future team:
As a Principal Design Engineer within the Client's core engineering team, you will take on a leading role in overseeing and ensuring the technical integrity and engineering direction of multiple projects within a broader programme of works. Reporting directly to the Design Manager, you will assist in providing engineering assurance and guidance, ensuring that all projects are set up and managed to meet the required standards.
Your missions:
Your role will involve the management of engineering processes, ensuring all requirements are captured, understood, and integrated with stakeholders. You will also offer technical expertise across a wide range of project and programme-wide engineering issues, drawing from your deep industry experience.
🎯 Ensure that projects are established with the appropriate engineering management frameworks and that they are followed consistently throughout the project lifecycle.
🎯 Facilitate the capture and management of requirements from all stakeholders, ensuring their integration into the project’s design and delivery.
🎯 Provide high-level engineering support to project teams, helping to resolve technical challenges and ensuring that engineering principles are upheld.
🎯 Contribute to the wider technical and engineering assurance of the programme, ensuring that design solutions are safe, compliant, and deliverable.
🎯 Quickly identify root causes of engineering challenges and work with project teams to implement effective solutions.
🎯 Maintain a sound understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and Nuclear Safety, ensuring that these are considered in all aspects of project delivery.

Qualifications
Qualifications/Skills to be successful:
💡 Degree qualified in a core engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering).
💡 Chartered Engineer status with a recognized awarding body.
💡 Proven experience in delivering projects using structured design processes, aligned with the RIBA 4 stages of work.
💡 Extensive experience in managing and delivering complex engineering and construction projects from feasibility through to handover.
💡 Ability to distil complex engineering challenges and provide practical solutions for project teams.
💡 Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with various levels of stakeholders, including Client Design Authorities, External Regulators, and Design and Construction Contractors.
💡 In-depth understanding of CDM regulations and Nuclear Safety requirements
Additional Information
Security: Sole UK national with BPSS would be okay but ideally SC due to the nature of background and supporting information that is required access to.
Staff or umbrella contractor
Working pattern: Able to be based from home with an expectation to attend Client site in Plymouth once every 3-4 weeks for 2-3 days at a time.
