The Individual Needs Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting a specific child or group of children with identified needs, helping them to access learning and thrive in our nurturing environment. Working in partnership with teachers, the SENCo, and other staff, the INA will ensure that support is tailored to meet the child’s unique needs, contributing to their academic progress, social integration, and emotional well-being. Key Responsibilities Child-Centered Support: Provide one-to-one or small-group support tailored to the child’s individual needs. Assist with classroom activities, adapting materials and tasks as needed. Foster the child’s independence, confidence, and engagement in learning. Implement strategies outlined in the child’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). Collaboration with Teachers and SENCo: Work closely with the class teacher to plan, deliver, and adapt lessons. Provide regular updates on the child’s progress and suggest adjustments to strategies. Prepare resources to support the child’s learning and inclusion. Encouraging Inclusion and Social Development: Support the child in developing positive relationships with peers. Encourage participation in school activities, ensuring access to the broader curriculum. Promote the school’s Christian values in interactions with all pupils. Administrative and Monitoring Duties: Maintain accurate records of the child’s progress and any interventions used. Contribute to reports and reviews regarding the child’s development. Essential Criteria: Experience working with children in an educational or care setting. Understanding of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents. Patience, adaptability, and a commitment to supporting every child’s potential. Desirable Criteria: Relevant qualifications, such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent. Experience working with children with specific needs, including autism, ADHD, or speech and language challenges. Familiarity with EHCPs and the SEND Code of Practice.
