What is the role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Mechanical Engineer with a strong background within the nuclear industry. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise and a proven track record in engineering consultancy, adding significant value to customer relations, overseeing project delivery, and contributing to the governance and growth of the discipline within our organisation.
What you will do
1. Lead the Mechanical engineering discipline, setting standards, and ensuring adherence to best practices.
2. Develop and implement governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to maintain technical excellence.
3. Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
4. Actively promote a pro-active safety culture and perform analysis to create a learning from experience behaviour.
5. Provide expert technical advice and solutions to complex engineering challenges.
6. Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
7. Lead initiatives to integrate innovative technologies and methodologies into project delivery.
8. Oversee the delivery of projects, ensuring they meet technical, quality, and safety standards.
9. Review and approve technical content, including design documents, calculations, and reports.
10. Coordinate with project managers to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
11. Implement robust quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of technical outputs.
12. Identify and mitigate risks associated with project execution and technical deliverables.
13. Serve as the primary technical liaison for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
14. Support the business development team in bidding work, providing technical input, and developing proposals.
15. Identify opportunities to add value to client projects and ensure customer satisfaction.
What you need
1. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Chartered Engineer or demonstrate working towards Chartership with a recognised EC institution.
3. Demonstrable experience in nuclear consultancy, with a focus on Mechanical engineering.
4. Extensive knowledge of nuclear industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
5. Strong leadership and governance skills, with experience managing the technical discipline.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
7. Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on quality and accuracy.
8. Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
10. Ability to mentor and inspire team members, promoting a collaborative and innovative work environment.
