Job overview
We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker for ward 7AD (Stroke Floor) at Calderdale Royal Infirmary. This is a vital role to assist qualified nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care within clearly defined limits and attainment of defined competence. The successful candidate will work without constant direct supervision using initiative within the level of competence for the post.
Main duties of the job
Main Tasks
1. At all times treat patients, visitors, and colleagues with dignity and respect, exercising discretion and behaving in a manner consistent with the CHFT standards of behaviour.
2. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work.
3. Work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with other members of the care team.
4. Maintain Trust policy regarding Control of Infections.
5. Undertake training in Manual Handling and adhere to principles taught.
6. Follow Health and Safety policies relevant to the working environment and attend mandatory updates in accordance with Trust policy.
7. Undertake duties that you have received appropriate training for and have been deemed competent.
8. Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
9. Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with the multi-disciplinary team.
10. Contribute to the development of the clinical area, through the contribution of new ideas to improve patient care/experience.
11. Provide holistic care in a busy team with high standards.
Person specification
Qualifications/Training
1. English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application.
2. Competence based level 2 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer.
3. Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role.
4. Moving and Handling.
5. Infection Control.
6. Customer Care.
7. Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies.
8. Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Healthcare Support.
Knowledge, experience & expertise
1. Previous employment with a healthcare setting (18 months).
2. Insight into the roles and responsibilities of the post.
3. Demonstrate a commitment to a caring profession.
4. Understand the importance of record keeping.
5. Literacy Skills.
6. Experience of record keeping.
