The Role:
We're working closely with a welcoming and well-resourced primary school in Thornton that is looking to appoint a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This is a full-time position, ideally starting as soon as possible, with the potential to continue for the remainder of this academic year and into September 2025.
What You’ll Be Doing:
✅ Supporting pupils with Autism on a 1:1 basis and in small group settings
✅ Assisting the class teacher with planning and delivering tailored interventions
✅ Creating a calm, safe, and engaging learning environment
✅ Encouraging the development of social skills, communication, and independence
✅ Liaising with parents, carers, and external professionals where necessary
What We’re Looking For:
✔️ Experience working with children with Autism or within an SEN setting (in a school or similar environment)
✔️ A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to support
✔️ A genuine desire to help children reach their full potential
✔️ A relevant qualification in education, psychology, or childcare is a plus – but not essential
✔️ Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply for one)
