Health Care Assistant - The Rogerstone Practice

We are a well-established, friendly and forward-thinking training Practice committed to high-quality care and the continued development of our Practice workforce. We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Health Care Assistant to work as part of our very experienced and supportive healthcare team. Good communication skills and a flexible approach are vital.
Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Easy access: the practice is situated just off junctions 28 and 27 on the M4.
Our team consists of 7 Partners, 4 Nurses (including Minor Illness and Nurse-led Chronic Disease Clinics), 2 HCAs, and an excellent Administration Team.
Training Practice - 2 GP Registrars
Main Duties of the Job
1. New patient health checks
2. ECG recording
3. Venepuncture
4. Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
5. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording
6. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
7. Preparing equipment before, during, and after minor operations and supporting Clinician
8. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being
9. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
10. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
11. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
12. Urinalysis
13. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
14. Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
15. Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician
16. Maintaining general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses' and treatment rooms
17. Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
18. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
19. Maintaining accurate records
20. Advising senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
21. Attending and participating in any Practice meetings when required
22. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

We are a well-established, friendly, forward-thinking practice with 13,200 patients, located in modern purpose-built premises with easy access, situated just off junctions 27 and 28 on the M4. We are committed to high-quality patient care within a supportive and friendly healthcare team passionate about the continued development of our practice workforce.
Our Practice Clinical Team includes 7 GP Partners, 2 GP Registrars, 1 Pharmacist, and 3 Practice Nurses. Our supporting Clinical staff consists of 2 Health Care Assistants/Phlebotomists. Our Practice also has a close working relationship with District Nurses, Health Visitors, and Midwives. A Psychological health and well-being Practitioner and a Diabetes Specialist Nurse also provide clinical sessions for our patients from our premises.
Job Responsibilities
The Health Care Assistant will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the practice.
An enhanced disclosure barring service check will be undertaken by the practice which will meet the cost of the check.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Qualified to NVQ/BTEC Level 2 in Health & Social Care
* Basic Nursing skills
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
* Qualified to NVQ Level 3
Experience
* Experience of working within a nursing team
* Experience of working in primary care
* Ability to work in a changing environment
* Ability to work without direct supervision
* Ability to work as part of an integrated multi-skilled team
* Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, and common sense; willingness and enthusiasm to develop skills
