We have a brand-new Senior Leadership role available within the Society. We are looking for a passionate and forward-thinking Head of Operational Risk & Resilience to join our evolving business during an exciting period of transformation. Were looking for a dynamic leader to take ownership of our Operational Resilience framework and spearhead initiatives that ensure we operate within agreed tolerances supporting us to effectively safeguard the organisation and keep our customers safe and secure.
Youll engage with Important Business System/Service Owners and key stakeholders, overseeing resilience testing, monitoring, and reporting. Youll identify vulnerabilities, track remediation efforts, and champion continuous improvement across the Society.
Additionally, youll have a key leadership role in first line risk within the Society. You will establish and lead first-line risk capabilities within the Chief Customer Office, shaping and implementing Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) requirements. Your leadership will be critical in embedding a strong risk culture and ensuring operational effectiveness.

Heres a taste of what you will be doing as a Head of Operational Risk & Resilience at Nottingham Building Society: -
Develop and lead the Operational Risk and Resilience Strategy, ensuring alignment with the Societys broader risk management and business continuity objectives.
Identify potential operational risks and vulnerabilities, providing solutions and strategic recommendations for management and mitigation. Act as the primary liaison between 1st line business operations and 2nd line risk functions, ensuring alignment with risk appetite.
Develop, implement, and regularly test crisis management plans to ensure the Society can respond to, recover from, and manage operational disruptions effectively.
Oversee and drive the delivery of an annual programme of activity across all business functions, including IT, operations and supply chain, working with IBS Owners.
Conduct and oversee ongoing business continuity activities
Stay abreast of emerging regulations and industry best practices related to operational resilience and ensure the Societys compliance with applicable laws.
Collaborate with senior leaders, risk management teams, external vendors, and regulatory bodies to foster a culture of resilience across the organisation.
Drive initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of operational resilience across the Society and ensure appropriate training programmes are in place.
Drive a strong risk-aware culture within the 1st line by embedding operational risk & resilience principles into day-to-day operations. Deliver training and awareness initiatives to upskill teams in identifying, assessing, and managing operational resilience risks.
Embed ERMF requirements in developing the first line risk capabilities in the Chief Customer Office, to support proactive risk identification, assessment, controls testing and mitigation.
Regularly review and enhance risk management processes based on industry best practices, regulatory feedback, and internal/external incidents. Use root cause analysis and post-incident reviews to strengthen operational risk & resilience strategies.
About you: -
You will have significant experience in Operational Risk and Resilience in a senior leadership capacity within the building societies or financial services sector.
In-depth knowledge of operational risk management, operational resilience, crisis management, business continuity planning, and regulatory frameworks.
Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and driving cultural change.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in managing critical incidents and business disruptions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts to senior management and external stakeholders.
Evidenced ability to lead and influence the decisions and actions of others, including internal business partners, external stakeholders, and senior leadership.
