About us
The Language and Cognition Laboratory studies language learning and use in naturalistic settings. The laboratory is part of the Department of Experimental Psychology offering a world-leading research environment aimed at understanding the psychological and biological basis of behavior.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a Data Scientist whose role will primarily involve (1) carrying out processing, analyses, modelling and visualization of data from an audio-visual corpus of dyadic interaction between a caregiver and their child (ECOLANG with over 70 dyads); (2) data management (including data archiving for public distribution). The role will be suitable for a data scientist interested in Cognitive Science, or for a cognitive linguist/psychologist or computational linguist who would like to develop skills as a Data Scientist within the domain of human communication. The position is available on a part-time basis (0.9FTE) 5 days per week and is funded for two years in the first instance. The salary offered is £43,124 (pro rata) including London Allowance. About you
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Data Science, Psychology, Linguistics, or Cognitive Science and an interest in the development of human communication. They should have experience with the analysis of complex data sets, data visualisation, and writing code (in R and Python). They should also have some experience in data management of large datasets.
