Job Introduction
BBC Audio specialises in audio content. We're made up of 450+ colleagues who produce over 80 hours of content every single day from bases across the UK. We supply programmes, podcasts and music for almost all of the BBC's radio networks and BBC Sounds. Our creative teams produce 20,500 shows and make an extraordinary range of content - from Radio 1's Breakfast Show with Greg James to Radio 4 favourites such as Woman’s Hour.
Based in Birmingham, The Archers is the flagship Drama strand on Radio 4 and Britain’s longest running daily soap having begun transmission in January 1951.
Main Responsibilities
We are looking to recruit a producer with a demonstrable passion for broadcasting to the 5 million listeners who listen to The Archers every week, and who has a knowledge of the show and what it sets out to achieve – a dynamic and dramatic representation of life in rural England and the way we live now. Reporting to the Executive Editor, you will work as a member of the small dedicated team. Your focus will be across all aspects of the creative process of the programme; long and short term story planning, script editing and story research and directing. You’ll also support the Editors and your Producer colleagues by sharing responsibility with them for a wide range of programme and production issues at this level.
Are you the right candidate?
* A demonstrable passion for and a great understanding of the Archers brand.
* Strong track record in Drama broadcasting with a knowledge of production processes.
* Proven excellent editorial judgement, including knowledge of the Archer’s target audience, their needs and expectations and a thorough knowledge of editorial and legal guidelines.
* Proven experience of influencing, negotiating and communicating effectively both internally and with external agencies/partners.
* Highly developed planning and organising skills. Ability to manage several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
* Drama script editing and story lining experience.
* Able to lead the team to develop creative ideas which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment, taking ideas from concept to finished product.
* Being able to deploy these skills in a fast moving and deadline driven environment.
