Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Activities Assistant to join our team in providing enriching and engaging experiences for residents in our care home. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in senior care, particularly in environments such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This role is pivotal in enhancing the quality of life for our residents, especially those living with dementia, by planning and implementing a variety of activities that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical well-being.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive activities programme tailored to the interests and needs of residents.
2. Coordinate and oversee daily activities, ensuring they are engaging and accessible for all residents.
3. Foster a welcoming environment that encourages participation from all residents, including those with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
4. Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure activities align with the care plans of residents.
5. Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote upcoming events and gather feedback on activities.
6. Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback to continually improve the programme.
7. Organise special events, outings, and celebrations that enhance community engagement within the care home.
8. Train and supervise volunteers or activity assistants involved in the programme.
9. Support the care team with residents' personal care and grooming.
Skills
1. Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff members.
2. Strong understanding of senior care principles, particularly in relation to dementia care.
3. Experience working in a nursing home or assisted living environment is highly desirable.
4. Ability to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages participation from all residents.
5. Organisational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
6. A compassionate approach towards care that prioritises the dignity and individuality of each resident.
7. Creative thinking to develop innovative programmes that cater to diverse interests within the resident population.
