In the southern part of the West Midlands, Warwick district is an attractive, historic location and, as a consequence, local housing costs are extremely high, so the provision of more affordable housing is a key corporate priority for Warwick District Council. We are looking for a Housing Strategy and Enabling officer to work in a proactive team in an important role. You will provide the enabling service, working with planners, developers and registered providers to ensure that an appropriate mix of affordable housing is included in all larger private housing schemes. You will support and advise registered providers on schemes that they bring forward to ensure that affordable homes are provided for local families. In addition, you will work with the Warwick District Council development team to assist with identifying and contributing to the direct delivery of affordable homes for local delivery. These homes will meet sustainable standards and negotiation with developers will be key to this delivery. It is essential therefore that you are able to work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally within the Council and externally. You will be responsible for producing housing and related strategies, policies and procedures that contribute to achieving the aims. This will include the identification of housing need to feed into all of the housing and planning policies for the delivery of affordable housing. The role is interesting and diverse and can lead to many opportunities to guide the work of Warwick District Council housing and external partners. In order to be successful in this role, it will be necessary to have knowledge and/or experience of the housing development environment (local authority or registered provider), experience of working with registered providers in a policy and/or performance management role and experience of achieving positive outcomes in that area of work. So, relevant skills will include the ability to communicate effectively, being competent at negotiating and influencing and excellent communication skills. There is a requirement to have a full driving license and access to a vehicle in order to visit sites and attend relevant meetings on-site as required.
