Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Erlestoke are seeking innovative Teachers/Tutors to deliver to a diverse group of learners. Helping to build confidence, develop their skills and achieve within a college environment. We are looking for candidates interested in variable hours, on an ad-hoc basis, who are keen to explore Prison Education.
HMP Erlestoke is currently looking for individuals with one or more of the below skill-sets to support their curriculum delivery:
1. Functional Skills English – Entry 1 to Level 2
2. Functional Skills Maths – Entry 1 to Level 2
3. IT/Digital Skills
4. Art
5. Customer Service
A teaching qualification would be desirable; however, those willing to work towards and hold supporting subject specialism at degree level or equivalent or industry experience would also be considered - training provided to help you achieve your full potential. HMP Erlestoke is a Category C prison, holding approximately 444 adult male sentenced offenders. Built on the grounds of Erlestoke Manor, it has expanded in both offender numbers and intervention programmes. HMP Erlestoke’s focus is fixed on reducing re-offending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational-based training and education, in a pro-social environment.
Courses at HMP Erlestoke include Maths, English, IT, Horticulture, Carpentry, Cleaning, Cookery, Creative Craft, Personal and Development Skills and much more. The education hours are Monday to Thursday 8.30am – 11.15am, 1.45pm – 4.45pm; Fridays 8.30am – 11.15am.
HMP Erlestoke has been involved with projects including “Reading Ahead,” where Erlestoke has achieved a double gold award for over 500 completions, as well as participating in the “Inside Out” project and “Chain Gang” creative writing class. HMP Erlestoke achieved “Good” in their most recent Ofsted inspection and strives to provide a safe, decent and secure environment for offenders, staff, and visitors.
