Job Description
Stamford School is offering a fantastic opportunity for a recent Music Graduate with ambitions for a career in teaching & extracurricular Music to join us for a one year programme at the Stamford School, beginning this academic year in September 2025. We have both residential and non-residential opportunities.
We would like to hear from Graduates of Music degrees who have ambitions in teaching and can offer some leadership in our extracurricular programme, focusing on the a particular music discipline.
The applicant will become members of the music department, playing a full role in our busy independent day and boarding schools.
Appropriate candidates can be invited to apply for a supported PGCE, apprenticeship, or 2nd year, in the Autumn term. We will then go through a formal process before Christmas and offer places to start in September '26.
Music is one of our core co-curricular pillars here at Stamford, ensuring that our students can discern their pathway academically as well as developing key transferrable skills outside the classroom. It is the school's desire to develop the skills of all students interested in music, regardless of their current musical abilities, and to promote a life-long appreciation and enjoyment of music.
The department, which embraces both the Senior and Junior Schools, offers a wide range of instrumental tuition, including all the major orchestral, jazz and popular instruments, tuned and untuned percussion, drum kit, all guitars, and singing. In addition to the full-time staff, there are 20 part-time instrumental and vocal specialists, many of whom are professional performers, bringing a wealth of experience and opportunity into the Schools.
This in a term time only role (34 weeks per year) that attracts an annual salary of £18,132 on a non-residential basis, or £15,594 on a residential basis.
Desired Criteria
* Personal experience of boarding or residential environment.
* Possess a Driving License (held for 2 years).
* A willingness to lead and contribute to Chapel services.
* Hold a relevant degree or suitable music qualification.
* Relevant experience/qualifications in the music field.
* Experience and/or interest in working with young people and to pursue a career as a teacher or in a music related field.
* Be empathetic and have an understanding and be able to recognise the needs of children in a boarding environment.
* Possess good communication skills, verbally and in writing.
* Able to support students pastorally and role model appropriate behaviours.
* Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular music performances and recitals.
