One of my clients, a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, is looking for a Graduate Structural Engineer.
The Role:
Working within a team of Engineers and Technicians and under the supervision of the Project Manager / Owner, as a Graduate Engineer you are expected to deliver assigned tasks and provide technical support, working towards the overall successful delivery of technically challenging designs.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
1. Developing skills and knowledge base in both the technical and management streams through ongoing familiarisation with Design Standards, Codes of Practice, and Design Guidance notes.
2. Demonstrating the ability to understand technical concepts.
3. Gaining experience and proficiency in company systems and procedures.
4. Becoming familiar with and compliant with relevant Health, Safety, and Welfare regulations, promoting a culture of awareness within the team.
5. Ongoing Continual Professional Development through appreciation, understanding, and experience of works directly relatable to ongoing tasks, extending to wider subject reading and knowledge of Engineering and relatable subjects through self-study.
6. Working towards Chartered Membership of ICE / IStructE.
7. Participating in the resolution of technical issues.
8. Communicating throughout the stages of a project with the Engineering Team, Technicians, and the Project Manager / Owner on a regular basis, providing updates on progress against programmes.
9. Preparing and collating project-specific documentation.
10. Reviewing and self-checking of own work.
11. Coordinating information with relevant third parties (i.e., Architects, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Surveyors, and other members of the design team) to establish relationships with peers in outside organisations.
12. Attending meetings, visiting sites, carrying out site investigations, and checking progress of work on site, preparing and issuing site inspection reports as necessary.
13. Awareness and understanding of programmes and resource planning.
14. Managing the production of assigned deliverables and associated outputs, ensuring they are delivered on time and to an excellent standard.
15. Preparing and presenting information to the Engineering Team and other teams within the business.
16. Handling the project management of smaller tasks and projects.
17. Undertaking complex structural calculations and design proofs using a range of techniques including handwritten calculations.
18. Developing analytical design models using a range of computer packages to assist in the assessment and design of larger scale buildings, including interpretation of output.
19. Preparing and collating calculation files to include a clear summary on design approach and content.
20. Preparing marked-up drawings for use in preparation of reinforcement detailing and subsequent review of completed reinforcement drawings.
21. Reviewing the prepared structural drawings and details to ensure these reflect the design assumptions and calculations.
22. Checking third-party information received for consistency with Structural Design and Drawings / Engineering Mark-ups.
23. Carrying out any other duties that may reasonably be expected.
