As one of our next Operations Technicians, you’ll fast become a valued member of the Torness Station. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the safe, smooth and reliable operations of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices.

Pay, benefits and culture
We’re offering a salary of £37,169 - £46,963 (pay award is pending an imininent increase) with our terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences and qualification.
As you’ll be working Shifts as an Operate Technician, the role also brings an attractive Shift Allowance, starting from a minimum of £11,359 per annum. Any additional voluntary hours are paid at a premium overtime rate.

What you’ll be doing
As one of our “Op Techs”, you’ll ensure the safe and reliable operation of the plant by consistently monitoring its condition, identifying & resolving sub-standard condition through work requests, performing minor tool pouch maintenance, and reporting civil defects through the helpdesk processes. We respond to requests from the control room to investigate plant alarms and perform required operations.
You’ll also control and closely monitor the plant and equipment to support the process by following procedures, applying conservative decision-making techniques and working effectively within a team environment.
By showing a solid understanding of plant operation, design and theory (comprehensive training will be provided), we investigate and rectify plant faults within our own area of demonstrated competence, carrying out minor maintenance and health physics monitoring as required.
You will also be required to perform in Emergency Scheme duties, where you will receive full training for any emergency that should occur.
Who you are
As the next Operate Technician, we would ideally like to see previous operational or engineering work experience in a heavy process environment, supported by relevant qualifications. With a focus on safety, you will have the ability to follow written process instructions and complete paperwork accurately, as well as working positively and flexibly as part of a small team.
With an inquisitive mindset, you should question activities and environments to ensure they are safe and as per their specifications. You will ideally bring a good level of computer literacy, for instance using programmes like Word and Excel, as well as our bespoke systems. As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent).
