Design Engineer Job Summary:
Working as part of a close knit team, the Design Engineer will be preparing design briefs and working to detailed specifications and BOM’s, to fulfil client expectations.
This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in design for niche, but varied project requirements, across a global customer base.
The successful Design Engineer needs to be experienced enough to make the role their own, capable of prioritising own workload and applying a creative, innovative mindset in order to deliver against objectives.
Internal training will be provided but previous experience of working with a varied customer portfolio / design projects would be hugely advantageous.
Design Engineer Key Responsibilities:
Preparing design briefs and detailed specifications.
Design and draught work, using AutoCAD and Solidworks software
Prepare detailed setout, fabrication and general arrangement drawing
Produce technical files for products, as well as literature for user instructions and marketing material
Manage projects from initial enquiry and concept, through to completion.
Communicate internally and externally with appropriate stakeholders to ensure any progress or updates are effectively communicated
Offer end to end support with design, research and development of new products (from initial concept through prototyping, pre-production and final release
As and when required, attend on-site / off-site meetings (with clients or sub-contractors
Work closely with sub-contractors on specific projects, to assist with pre-production, assembly, trials and testing of product
Follow up on day to day inquiries and working with other team members within the wider engineering department
Key skills / Experience required:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Design Engineer or Senior Draughtsperson
A degree / HND / HNC in Mechanical Engineering, supported by relevant working experience.
AutoCad and Solidworks Software experience is essential for this role, and will be assessed during the interview process
A strong team player, with a genuine interest in working on a variety of projects, as well as supporting customers with inquiries from initial concept, through to completion to agreed objectives
An effective multitasker, with experience of working on multiple
projects or inquiries, simultaneously.
Resilience, and the ability to work well under pressure, is essential for this role, given that you will have to work to deadlines, often across multiple projects at any one time.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to easily convey ideas to clients, senior management and colleagues alike.
Previous 3D structural stress analysis / finite element analysis (FEA) experience would be ideal, although training will be provided.
