Although one of the smaller Neurosurgical units in the country, we take pride in the quality and range of neurosurgical services we provide. We have a full range of surgical capability in skull base, neuro-oncology, complex spine, vascular, pain management, and CSF disorders. Paediatric Neurosurgery is undertaken at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. The ARI unit operates within the remit of the Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery in Scotland, enabling access to services in the larger units in Glasgow and Edinburgh for some interventions such as Interventional Neuroradiology, complex paediatric surgery, and functional neurosurgery.
We have a very cohesive spine service with on-call shared with two Orthopaedic Spine surgeons.
Neurosurgery has an in-patient ward with 17 beds and a co-joined ward for neurology patients. Neurophysiology and a planned investigation unit are also on the same floor. This post will be intrinsic to the safe running of the in-patient ward, which caters for elective and emergency admissions. Participation in the Emergency On-Call Rota is expected.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and Postgraduate Deans approval.
Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).
