The Respiratory Physiology team is based within the Respiratory Centre at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, with a Community Diagnostic Centre at Cannock Chase Hospital. Both laboratories provide a wide range of diagnostic services. The post holder will be primarily based at Cannock Chase Hospital, working in the delivery of Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) respiratory diagnostic tests. There will be a requirement for cross-site working, occasionally working at New Cross Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to perform a range of duties which include simple diagnostic tests, supporting clinics, quality control, equipment issue & maintenance. You will also be required to assist with maintaining a stock room and the ordering of consumable items. You will also have an important role with infection prevention, ensuring testing rooms and equipment are cleaned and maintained for use by patients and staff. It would be desirable for you to be an ARTP accredited spirometry practitioner, or have previous experience in measuring spirometry/basic lung function; however, training will be provided. We will be looking for an individual who wishes to develop their clinical knowledge and skills to progress further within the profession.

Job responsibilities
1. The post holder will be required to assist in all clinical aspects and the running of an efficient diagnostic outpatient facility.
2. The Lung Function department is very proactive and focused on the delivery of the best patient experience.
3. The post holder will undertake spirometry testing as well as other basic lung function measurements. This includes the issue and downloading of sleep study equipment.
4. Undertake/perform Spirometry with interpretation.
5. Undertake basic sleep diagnostic setup and downloading (e.g. Overnight Oximetry and Polygraphy).
6. Support Respiratory Physiologists with advanced procedures.
7. Provide accurate results on all procedures listed above for interpretation by more senior colleagues.
8. Develop and maintain knowledge and clinical skills.
9. Assist in other procedures performed within the Lung Function department and local health economy.
10. Support the clinical lead in the overall delivery of patient-focused services.
11. Support the clinical lead in the routine management and administrative functions of the department.
12. Assist in the purchase of consumables and equipment and monitoring of stock levels of the department.
13. Ensure that data is collected accurately and in a timely manner.
14. Propose changes to existing procedures within their area for the improvement and development of the service.
15. Implement any new policies, procedures, and SOPs within own area.
16. Undertake a personal development programme.
17. Undertake Trust mandatory training on an annual basis, or as and when required.
18. Undertake additional training in order to perform duties of the post.
19. Adopt a professional and flexible approach to the needs of the Respiratory Department and those of the Trust.
20. Use and maintain information systems.

Qualifications
