MPA Recruitment are working in partnership with the local health and social care trust to recruit a Band 4 Social Work Assistant for the Young Person Partnership based in Newry.
Job Description
To support the team in the implementation and running of the Young Person’s Partnership, which is an Adolescent Support Project, working with children and their families. Under the direction of the team leader and Senior Social Work Practitioner, to provide a flexible and responsive service, geared towards maintaining and supporting young people within their family/community.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To take forward identified, planned, time limited pieces of work with young people, e.g. behaviour/lifestyle issues/health and education/family relationships.
2. To work in a planned and preventative way with other Agencies, such as schools/EWO, Health Professionals, Social Services, Youth Services etc.
3. To undertake crisis intervention work with young people and their families.
4. To work collaboratively with other Disciplines/Teams, e.g. Child & Family Clinic, Disability Teams and Leaving and Aftercare to progress agreed work with the young person and their families.
5. To support young people and their families following discharge from care.
6. To work alongside Social Work fieldwork staff and assist in formulating and progressing care and/or treatment plans for individual children and young persons.
7. To work with Families, communities and other professionals to intervene early with children and families to address difficulties and avoid more complex problems.
8. To take responsibility for appropriate work identified by the team leader / Senior Social Work Practitioner.
9. To ensure that appropriate records are maintained particularly detailing observations and information which will contribute to the assessment of each child and young person, in accordance with agreed policy and procedures.
10. To prepare reports and statistical information which will facilitate ongoing evaluation and monitoring of the project.
11. Through purposeful activity, to develop appropriate relationships which will promote the growth and development of the children and young people with the aim of encouraging emotional maturity and socially acceptable behaviour.
12. To contribute to ongoing risk assessments and risk management plans in relation to personal safety and the safety and wellbeing of the young person.
13. To identify and report child protection concerns and other similar issues in accordance with policies and procedures.
14. Participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions and formal supervision as required.
15. To establish a range of appropriate contacts within the local neighbourhood, which would facilitate the involvement of the children and young people in outside activities.
16. To support and when appropriate lead group work programs with children and their parents / carers.
17. To participate in and contribute to staff training programmes when appropriate.
18. To be flexible and undertake such other duties as may be required.
Qualifications / Experience Required
NVQ Level 3 Caring for Children and Young People or equivalent Health and Social Care related qualification plus 1 years’ experience of working with adolescents and their families in a caring or activity based capacity.
OR
4 GCSE’s including English or equivalent plus 2 years’ experience of working with adolescents and their families in a paid capacity.
Currently hold registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council on the Social Care part of the register.
Hold a full current driving license valid for use in the UK and have access to a car.
Hours of Work
Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, 37.5hrs per week.
