An exciting opportunity has come up within the Gloucester Community Learning Disability Team, as part of the Occupational Therapy Service!
The new post holder will:
1. Provide specialist breadth and depth of skills and knowledge to deliver evidence-based occupational therapy assessment and intervention to service users with a wide range of complex learning disabilities.
2. Work as a key member of a specialist multidisciplinary team contributing expert knowledge, assessment, and specialist interventions to meet the physical, sensory, and emotional health needs of people with a Learning Disability.
3. Provide consultancy and advice, and training to support primary and secondary health care professionals, social care providers, and carers to enable them to better meet the health needs of service users.
4. Research, develop, and share current best practice to optimise the service users' ability to engage with their environment in line with principles of social inclusion.
5. Support the continuous practice development as a member of the leadership group in the occupational therapy workforce.
Main duties of the job
1. The Gloucester CLDT provides a specialist locality-based service for people with a Learning disability whose health needs cannot be met by mainstream health services.
2. The team works closely with relevant carers, organisations, agencies, and with internal specialist LD services and inpatient provisions.
3. CLDT is available Monday to Friday primarily during office hours and is delivered in relevant settings to meet service user needs.
4. Provide specialist Occupational Therapy input through a range of evidence-based assessments and approaches.
5. To clinically support and guide junior Occupational Therapy staff.

Specific Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver highly specialist occupational therapy assessment, recommendations, and focused interventions as part of a specialist multidisciplinary service.
2. To provide specialist knowledge, experience, advice, and consultation related to occupation-focused practice.
3. Contribute to and lead where appropriate, the development of multidisciplinary intervention plans for service users with complex needs, as per Care Management Policy.
Clinical
1. Provide highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessments, recommendations, and where appropriate short-term intervention for people who face significant occupational performance and environmental challenges as detailed in relevant Care Pathways.
2. Utilise the conceptual framework of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and other evidenced approaches to underpin clinical practice and support highly developed clinical reasoning.
3. Provide highly specialist assessments utilising MOHO tools, Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) informed assessment, and other Sensory Processing assessments as relevant to client needs commensurate with skills and knowledge.
Professional
1. To provide training and support of primary and secondary health care professionals, social care providers, and carers to enable them to better meet the occupational needs of service users.
2. Maintain accurate, informative, and contemporaneous records of all interventions. Initiate referrals to other services and provide substantive letters, and formal reports as required within Trust and Professional standards.
3. Instigate and actively contribute to all service user care planning and review meetings for your caseload.
4. Regularly attend and actively contribute to multi-disciplinary, team, and professional meetings and forums.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
1. Substantial post-qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist working with people with complex learning disabilities.
2. Clinical experience within a range of the following settings: Community, Intensive Support teams, secure services, rehabilitation, intensive care, or acute care wards.
3. Post-Graduate qualifications in Occupational Therapy e.g. Clinical Supervision, Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS), Sensory Integration, Postural Management, or Standardised Assessments.
Desirable
1. Experience of research and/or audit activity.
2. Accredited training as a clinical supervisor for qualified Occupational Therapists.
Qualifications
Essential
1. Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
2. Health Profession Council (HPC) Registration.
