Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity within the departments of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, and Orthodontics. The team treats a diverse range of patients referred from multiple specialties, designing, manufacturing, and fitting custom-made maxillofacial prostheses in our dedicated patient clinics.
Consideration would also be given to a developmental position, starting at Band 7.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be competent in all areas of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and have knowledge of Restorative and Orthodontic appliances. The ability to work autonomously to provide a high level of service to our patients and service users is required.
Applicants should provide evidence of experience in the custom manufacture of facial prostheses and the ability to undertake complex orthognathic surgical planning. Previous experience and understanding of 3D surgical planning of head and neck reconstruction and 3D orthognathic surgical planning is desirable.
Working for our organisation
The OMFS Department manages a wide variety of pathology ranging from general OMFS issues to complex problems for which we offer many dedicated specialist clinics. Our Head and Neck service is run in close association with the ENT and plastic surgery teams, and we have a complete Head and Neck MDT that runs jointly with the Exeter team to discuss all new patients. Major head and neck surgery is provided by the Torbay team but performed in Exeter, and patients are then transferred back to Torbay for ongoing care and surveillance.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an Integrated Care Organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services, and adult social care. The Trust runs Torbay Hospital as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will co-ordinate and arrange treatment plans, case conferences/meetings, timetabling of procedures, discharge from care, and referring on/back of individual patient cases.
You will also organize your own workload and be responsible for ensuring the demands for the service are met within the timeframes agreed by the appropriate Consultants and clinical staff.

Qualifications
* Qualified Dental Technician holding B/Tec National Diploma in Dental Technology (or equivalent) as recognized by the GDC
* Advanced Level Dental Technology Qualification as recognized by the GDC (C&G Advanced Certificate, LCGI, HNC, or BSc) through further study to master's level or equivalent experience.
* Current registration with the GDC as a Dental Technician
* IMPT (Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Technologists) Membership
Knowledge and experience
* Knowledge and experience of a wide range of specialized technical procedures (OMFS, Orthodontic, and Restorative Dentistry)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* IT competency
* Knowledge of Medical Devices Directive
* Previous hospital experience
* Knowledge in digital workflow, 3D scanning, and CAD/CAM technologies
Specific Skills
* Competent in Oral & Maxillofacial, Restorative Dentistry, and Orthodontic appliance construction
* Ability to organize and prioritize workloads
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
