Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7
37.5 hours a week / permanent contract
The Childrens PCD management service is one of the four commissioned national centres. We provide specialist PCD care to children across the north of England.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced senior nurse with relevant experience, excellent interpersonal skills, organisational skills and ability to work independently. As the nursing lead in our small friendly multi-disciplinary team you are integral in co-ordinating care and management of children and young people with PCD, providing a quality service. You will provide specialist advice, education and support to health professionals and parents/carers locally and work collaboratively with our established regional shared care teams.
Children are seen annually by the PCD management multi-disciplinary team at their local hospital and an individualised management plan for the child and family is produced as part of this assessment. We support home and school visits where needed and you will lead on the transition of young people in preparation for moving into adult services. As a national team member, you will work closely with the other PCD nurse specialists and our adult colleagues and participate in audit, research, and service development.
Main duties of the job
As the lead nurse in the PCD multi-disciplinary team you will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals, schools and parents/carers of these children. You will contribute to the management of these children in the acute setting, providing support and advice to regional shared care centres and primary health care teams. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area and collaborate with the other national PCD centres.

Management activities
1. Leads a specialist team in the development of evidence-based nursing practice in line. Ensures safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advance clinical skills.
2. Takes the lead in coordinating members of the specialist multidisciplinary team, in all aspects of service delivery and development.
3. Develops/provides appropriate information for staff, families, and children within the speciality. Where appropriate provides ongoing education and support for children and their families whether at home or in hospital.
Working across professional and organisational boundaries
1. Liaising with all members of the speciality team to discuss individual patients clinical needs.
2. To initiate and participate in Multidisciplinary meetings regarding the needs of specific children and their families. To plan appropriate care programmes and effect implementation.
3. Ensure that effective communication has been established with all disciplines, patients, and relatives.
4. Offer appropriate and expert advice to other professionals on care practices, delivery, and service development within own specialism.
Developing self and others
1. Provide specialist clinical and managerial advice, training, and education to healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust, nationally and internationally through a variety of teaching methods that encourages a positive learning experience.
2. Takes personal responsibility for own professional growth. Keeps up to date with professional development and research. Contributes to a specialist membership group.
3. Takes an active role in the personal development of specialist team members through the appropriate dissemination of relevant evidenced based practice.
