POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child Watch Childcare Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and fun program for Child Watch and Kids Club participants. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
2. Supervise program participants and administer recreational activities for children.
3. Maintain a positive and respectful manner of communication with families/parents.
4. Provide a safe, fun, and inviting environment for participants in our child watch areas.
5. Work cooperatively with professional staff, coworkers, and other departments.
6. Assist in maintaining attendance and sign-in records.
7. Maintain knowledge of all YMCA programs and services to assist members in selecting services that meet their individual needs.
8. Assist in designing and implementing age-appropriate activities for participants.
9. Additional duties as assigned by the Membership Experience Director.
10. Maintain the appropriate staff-to-child ratios.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
1. Provide a safe and loving environment for the children participating in the program.
2. Provide positive relations with those associated with the YMCA, children, and parents alike.
3. A positive image of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the community.
4. Sound management skills of the various components of the position, including all supervision.
5. The degree to which the needs of the Child Watch participants and their families are being met.
