Job Description
Summary
My brother is an engaging, intelligent 42-year-old man managing a degenerative physical and mental condition, which is why he’s looking for additional support with everyday tasks.
He’s a local lad through and through, living in Old Coulsdon, with a good friendship circle, a supportive family and two kids.
We continue to get glimpses of his old self in the speed of banter and quick smiles when something funny is said, and what he really misses is getting out into the community so he can experience more of these moments, coupled with the chance for some basic physical exercise such as swimming so he can keep as much muscle-tone up as possible, to make his everyday tasks easier as his condition progresses.
Candidate qualities:
• Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
• Reliable with good timekeeping
• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
• Hygienic, tidy and well organised
• Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
• Honest and cheerful
• Creative
• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
• Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
Other Personal Qualities:
• Patience / Ability to go at my brothers pace – particularly in relation to waiting until the full sentence is out before making assumptions about where he’s going with it (trust us, the wait is often well worth it).
• Physically capable – my brother is of average weight and height for his age, but my degeneration of the Corpus Collosum means that when he overbalances, the brain can’t send the signals to correct the movement in time, so anticipating possible falls, and having the strength to keep him upright in these moments, is absolutely key.
• Honest – As with any role in this field, he is vulnerable and needs to be able to trust and relate to you, so DBS checks are a pre-requisite and your ability to build inter-personal relationships is going to be one of the most important qualities you bring.
• Sense of Humour – The massive upside is you’ve got a client who’s rather fun and is looking for someone to accompany him on some of the best social moments of his week.
Employee Duties:
• Moving and handling
• Other relevant duties as required
• Administration
• Shopping
• Transportation
• Companionship
• Gardening
Additional duties:
• Desirable for you to accompany my brother to Baptist church services/activities
• Swimming – My brother is looking to be accompanied to go swimming once a week – this could easily be prior to meeting friends in the pub.
• Monthly visit to Fairfield Halls, Church or similar – expenses paid.
• Accompanying him to local shops approx. once per month.
• Accompanying him to medical appointments (if and when family unable to support). Dealing with correspondence – primarily acting as a conduit between my brother and his older brother (with PoA) for any physical mail requiring response that might otherwise be missed, you’d also assist Tim with his online shopping support and meal planning.
• Assisting with weekly social catch-ups: He would love someone to help him meet up with friends in a local pub. He doesn’t drink but definitely enjoys the company, and just needs to be able to get there and back, as well as enjoy the time they spend together safely.

• Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours
