What Is the Opportunity?
Here at Travelers we’ve got big growth ambitions! We’re looking for an Underwriter to support our renewal book of property and casualty business from an assigned broker panel in the North of England, primarily around Manchester and Leeds.
Using previous experience in a similar role, you will deliver a superior service to your brokers and clients; underwriting and managing an allocated renewal book. You will also provide some support to the Development Underwriters in producing and writing new business. You'll interact and collaborate with the underwriting team, Regional Underwriting Offices, Market Segment Colleagues and other critical internal/external business associates.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
This role is eligible for a £1,500 new joiner referral bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.
What Will You Do?
1. Underwrite and assess risk to maximise business growth and profitability for allocated broker panel. Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority in addition to considered, intelligent and complete recommendations to technical underwriting/business leadership.
2. Make prompt, sound decisions within underwriting authority and based on appropriate underwriting information.
3. Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with underwriting requirements and service.
4. Understand and execute Travelers' underwriting strategies and principles to produce budgeted results
5. Working with Underwriter on same broker panel, continuously manage book of business, maintaining quality of business, growth and profit.
6. Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation and information in account management systems and adherence to
7. Travelers' documentation standards.
8. Actively engage and seek out training opportunities to further develop underwriting expertise.
9. Develop and leverage broker/client relationships through a high level of visibility and using a disciplined sales management approach ( planning and follow-up for broker and prospective customer visits/meetings) in support of business objectives.
10. Working with Distribution, effectively assist in the development, documentation and execution of sales plans with emphasis on increasing marketing and sales activities outside the office. Work tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding of TICL goals and objectives.
11. Seek out and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other business units and regions to foster business development across Travelers.
12. Actively participate in regularly scheduled regional and product underwriting and/or sales meetings.
13. Demonstrate superior customer service standards (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products) to meet Travelers' service standards.
14. As an employee you are expected to act in an ethical manner at all times. You will ensure you understand all compliance and regulatory requirements for your role by completing all necessary training and certifications.
15. As an employee we expect your actions and outcomes will at all times meet local regulatory and supervisory approaches to ensure fair treatment of our customers. You will ensure you keep adequate records of all transactions undertaken with customers, brokers and all other parties.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
17. Degree education preferred.
18. Typically has proven experience in Underwriting, including identifying and developing new business opportunities.
19. General knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
20. General knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies, procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day to day work activities.
21. General knowledge of technical underwriting.
22. Intermediate knowledge and ability required in respect of analytical thinking, judgment, decision making, communication and strong team work.
23. Demonstrates intermediate ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
24. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of Microsoft Office systems including Excel and Powerpoint.
25. Typically demonstrates advanced relationship management skills.
26. ACII qualification preferred.
What is a Must Have?
27. Previous experience of underwriting in Property and Casualty classes of business.
28. Incumbents are required to hold a full and valid driving licence.

30. Retirement: Travelers will make a basic contribution of 9% of pensionable salary to your Group Personal Pension Plan (“GPPP”).
