Job Title: Senior Ecologist
Location: Wakefield
Salary: £30,000 PA, + Benefits (neg)
Excellent opportunity for self-motivated and positive-minded Senior Ecologists to join a friendly team in the Wakefield office.
The successful applicant will be involved in all areas of our work, supporting clients in a vast range of different sectors.
Responsibilities:
1. Co-ordinating and undertaking protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
2. Advising clients of constraints and survey requirements.
3. Report writing.
Skills & Experience Required:
1. A full clean UK driving licence.
2. A degree or equivalent qualification (N/SVQ Level 5) in Ecology or a related subject.
3. A minimum of 4 years’ relevant work experience.
4. Understanding and experience in the application of UK environmental legislation and policy.
5. Experience in ecological field survey work (including to UKHab and protected species).
6. Up-to-date knowledge of, and familiarity with, survey guidance for a range of protected species.
7. Experience in report writing (including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans, and Ecological Impact Assessments) and development of mitigation measures.
8. Comfortable with and have experience in attending meetings and liaising with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, and third-party stakeholders.
9. Able to critically review your own work and experience of reviewing others’ work.
10. Good organizational skills and an ability to resource work.
11. Able to manage own workload, be proactive in managing projects, and delegate to and provide support to junior staff as appropriate.
12. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or equivalent professional body with a professional code of conduct.
13. Proactive, a self-starter, and able to use own initiative when appropriate.
14. Eligible to work within the UK.
Desirable Criteria:
1. At least one Natural England (or other equivalent) protected species licence, preferably Bat Survey Level 2 (or above).
2. Experience of Biodiversity Net Gain.
3. Botany as a specialism, certified at FISC level 3 or above.
4. At least 5 years relevant experience.
This position provides an opportunity to build on your existing experience, leading and delivering on a range of projects. You will have the opportunity to mentor colleagues, ensure the production of high-quality reports, and engage with clients and their design teams to deliver high-quality sustainable solutions.
You will also play an integral role in the delivery of our business development strategy, including identifying and responding to opportunities and supporting the business to build new service lines and business areas.
We have permanent roles available in our Wakefield office but welcome conversations from applicants in other locations. We have additional offices located in Manchester, Lichfield, Norwich, London, Cardiff, and Sussex.
With a focus on regional site work and/or working with client project teams, there will be a requirement for travel and occasional overnight stays as part of these roles. Expenses and subsistence are paid, and we monitor working away closely to ensure the wellbeing of our staff.
