The position offered forms part of a planned and ongoing expansion of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Ground Engineering team and comes with real opportunities for career progression. The position is a mix of Geoenvironmental & Geotechnical engineering.
The opportunity:
We are looking for someone with 5 yrs (+) experience, who can fit straight into the existing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering projects to a high standard, mentoring junior staff, and supporting innovation and continuous development of the team and output.
We will expect you to have strong technical and commercial skills, knowledge and experience to take on the day-to-day responsibility for delivery of projects and tasks, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme. Specific tasks include but are not limited to delivery of desk based ground engineering assessments, design and management of ground investigation and monitoring, interpretative reporting including derivation of conceptual site models, production of remediation strategies, and supervision and validation of construction works. Further tasks may include, mineral / geological interpretation, legacy mining assessment and remediation, waste assessment, contract management, fulfilling of CDM Designer or Principal Designer roles. Some site visits or periods of sitework will be required within the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, with future opportunities to develop, grow and ultimately lead our Ground Engineering capabilities in Scotland. The position is a mix of Geoenvironmental & Geotechnical engineering.
Skills / Experience required:
* Experience in geotechnical engineering and / or engineering geology.
* Supervise staff on a project-by-project basis. Manage projects with minimal requirement for advice and supervision.
* Able to provide supervision and guidance to team members on specialist technical matters.
* Good written communication skills, confident with verbal communication and capable of leading relevant input to project meetings with clients.
* Willing and capable of representing the firm at meetings and networking events and willing to participate in such events.
* Involved in coordination and preparation of proposals.
* Management of own workload and deployment of more junior staff to ensure project efficiency.
* BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering, Geology or a related subject, MSc advantageous.
* A minimum of 5 years’ post-graduation experience.
* Chartered Engineer or Geologist status, or demonstratable progress of working towards chartered status.
* An excellent understanding of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK and associated geohazards.
* Experienced in logging soils and rock to current British Standards.
* Familiar with and able to interpret geological maps and geological data.
* Able to develop conceptual ground models to design and justify the nature and scope of ground investigation works.
* Able to design and specify appropriate ground investigations in accordance with relevant standards, guidance and common forms of contract.
* Able to complete Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical design Reports in accordance with Eurocode 7 or other common guidance.
* Experience in Openground (or other relevant logging and data management software) would be advantageous.
* Experience in AutoCAD (including surface modelling) and / or GIS experience would be advantageous .
* CDM experience would be advantageous .
* Full driving license essential.
