JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION 1. JOB DETAILS Job Title: Radiographer Assistant Reports to: The Superintendent Radiographer. Accountable to: Radiology Services Manager. Band: Band 2 Unit/Department: Radiology Location : AfC Job No: 248 2. JOB PURPOSE To work as part of a team to provide a high quality radiology service, carrying out policies and procedures as specified by the Radiology Management Team. The post holder will undertake a wide range of duties in support of the radiographers and radiologists. 3 JOB DIMENSIONS The post holder will be responsible for stock control, care of patients, clerical duties and data input onto the radiology computer system. Patients are received from multiple sources and may present as unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, disorientated and with physical and mental disability 4. ORGANISATIONAL CHART 5. Essential Educated to GCSE/O level standard Keyboard/data entry skills Good interpersonal skills and the ability to use initiative whilst remaining part of a team. Good team membership skills. Experience in working with a cross section of the general public Communication skills both written and oral The post holder should be polite and helpful, have good customer service skills Able to work under own initiative Able to assist in handling and moving patients, standing for prolonged periods and lifting. Desirable. Experience of working with the general public, by preference in a health care role. Evidence of moving and handling training, ability to push trolleys and operate patient lifting hoists Basic computer data knowledge which may enhance the service and support the qualified staff. 6. To be aware of current Ionising Radiation Regulations.. 9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Maintenance and care of the processing/ CR/PACS equipment. Quality control, basic fault finding and reporting / documentation of faults. To be aware and comply with systems of work, local rules and policies and procedures in accordance with current ionising radiation, Health and Safety/ COSHH regulations. (Refer to Section 5 of the Health and Safety manual). Stock control assisting the superintendent radiographer with ordering and checking delivery of all stock. Care of patients Escorting patients in and out of the examination room. Assisting with moving and handling of those patients who are immobile in a manner that is safe for all concerned. Reassuring and staying in attendance with difficult patients. When necessary, attending to the patients personal hygiene requirements. Providing and communicating after care following invasive procedures Assisting patients with after care following interventional procedures General help and assistance to the radiographer / radiologist throughout the patients examination, either in the department or on the wards. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in examination and processing rooms and whilst cleaning equipment including mobiles to minimise spread of infection. To participate in department organisation and workload planning as directed by qualified staff, offering proposals to change department procedures Clerical duties to include registering the patient, updating patient records, bookings, retrieval of previous films, film copying duties, film filing, extraction of worklists and all other associated TRIS or CR activities. To assist in the training of other members of staff. To assist qualified staff in the evaluation of resources to develop high standards of patient care and achieve value for money initiatives. Participate in the individual performance review system. Dealing with telephone messages in an efficient manner. Input accurate data onto the computer system. To present self at work with a professional appearance and disposition Health and Safety/Risk Management All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users. Infection Control The jobholder must comply at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Infection Control policies, in particular by practising Universal Infection Control Precautions. Hand hygiene must be performed before and after contact with patients and their environment.
