Climate Adaptation Coordination and Engagement Officer Are you passionate about advancing climate change adaptation in the UK? We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Climate Adaptation Coordination and Engagement Officer to join the Severn Estuary Partnership (SEP) supporting our involvement in the UKRI funded Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in coordinating and collaborating with Hub partners, facilitating workshops, and driving the integration of adaptation strategies across the UK. About the Hub: The new £5 million UKRI Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub, is being launched to deliver faster and more impactful action in the UK to help all four nations better prepare for the predicted effects of climate change. Led by King’s College London, the Hub aims to inform a national climate change adaptation plan by addressing current barriers around public awareness, policy, legislation, and climate data that might be hindering the UK’s ability to adapt to global warming. The Hub involves eight universities and five climate partnership organisations, working side by side over the next three years. Hub activities will be implemented through regional centres, each leading on one of the key barriers to adaptation, with a Hub Secretariat and Policy Response Unit based at King’s College London and supported by King’s Policy Institute. Job Purpose Support the activities of the Maximising UK adaptation to climate change (MACC) Hub, carrying out supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading projects within this area. Key Duties Provide professional advice and guidance on climate change adaptation to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood Investigate and analysis specific issues within coastal climate adaptation, ensuring learning is applied and tested in activity delivery throughout the duration of the Hub, and synthesize learning from delivery. Work with activity co-leads and Hub spoke coordinators to organise and facilitate workshops and activities to advance the objectives of the Hub in Wales, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements Create specific working groups, collaborating with activity leads to produce and integrate synthetic outcomes from workshops, facilitate cross-partner learning, apply insights to Hub activities, and contribute to joint publications Support specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives Collaborate with activity co-leads to develop and deliver training to advance the objectives of the Hub. Collaborate with project partners, including the Hub Manager and Hub spoke leads in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required Identify and engage new stakeholders, networks and partnerships at a regional and national level Contribute to joint publications (support in accessing data/findings; contributing writing tasks, and/or providing critical review) Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support Hub activities and the Severn Estuary Partnership General Duties Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role Essential Criteria Qualifications and Education Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience Knowledge, Skills and Experience Knowledge of relevant coastal and climate adaptation policies and strategies Experience in knowledge management and decision support tool development and ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team Experience in climate adaptation, environmental management, or related fields Customer Service, Communication and Team Working Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people Experience of partnership working, including the ability to advise and influence key stakeholders A proven ability to facilitate workshops and synthesize complex information, along with strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities Planning, Analysis and Problem solving Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within climate adaptation Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
