With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £10bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Transmission Substation Delivery Team will play key roles in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to be at the forefront of innovation! You will be pathing the way to NetZero by ensuring the safe and timely delivery of the Transmission Operations work programme including Construction, Maintenance, Fault investigation/repair and Defect Management.
As a vital part of SPEN, you will be exposed to a wide range of new and emerging responsibilities, and at a pivotal time as ScottishPower leads the fight against climate change and strives to deliver our ambitious growth and investment plans. You can expect to be working with and learning from a broad range of stakeholders from across SPEN, the Iberdrola Group and relevant external bodies.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Project Engineer working in Transmission Operations, you will play an important role in the safe delivery of all work carried out on the Central belt and Southern Scotland Transmission Network, comprising of an expanding number of substations, overhead line and underground cable network. This varies from routine preventative maintenance, reactive faults/defects repairs, minor/major construction projects and the implementation of emerging technologies. You will continuously monitor work processes and output to maximise team productivity, quality, and effectiveness strive to gain knowledge and experience in all areas of business procedures and system operation.
Within this position you will:
* Comply with Company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements to deliver a zero-accident culture and promote good safety behaviours.
* Comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations to establish and manage safety from the system for all operatives working on the SP Transmission Network.
* Undertake internal training program towards attainment of Senior Authorised Person (SAP) on the Transmission Network.
* Deliver a consistent approach in project delivery, fault management and maintenance.
* Comply with BETTA requirements to ensure key objectives are delivered.
* Focus on continuous improvement through quality processes.
* Identify solutions to problems and the areas where performance is not on target.
* Take a lead in the management of interfaces with external partners and contractors to deliver value in an efficient and a cost-effective manner.
* Respond appropriately and deliver excellent customer service to internal/external stakeholders, taking ownership and resolving any challenges as appropriate.
* Develop skills in business procedures to maximise output and seek greater efficiencies.
* Participate in training/development activities and develop assigned trainees in accordance with business goals.
* Opportunities to develop enhanced operational skills to become multi-disciplined.
* Minimise and manage non-productive time.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for an individual who has enhanced knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices including HSE legislation. They will have awareness of network development policies and procedures and commercial & regulatory requirements.
They will have good customer service skills, negotiation, communication, and people management skills and be able to devise solutions to problems/challenges.
To be successful, as a minimum you will have:
* Qualified to Degree / HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (preferable).
* Electrical Engineering HNC or demonstrable previous experience in a role within a utility business (minimum).
* Experience / understanding of safety rule sets, safe systems of works and relevant industry specific supporting documentation.
