Assistant Headteacher Vacancy
Start date: Summer Term 2025 or as practically possible
Salary: L8 – L13 +TPS
Alderwasley Hall School in Derbyshire is a thriving and ambitious independent day and residential school for around 120 children and young people aged 5 – 20 with complex Speech, Language and Communication Needs. The young people have average and above cognitive ability and the school offers access to a broad curriculum that caters for students aiming for qualifications and an academic pathway and for students requiring a more holistic approach to their education. Qualifications offered range from Entry Level all the way to A Levels.
There is now an exciting opportunity for a new Assistant Headteacher to lead one of our sites (Lower site, for Years 1-10; Upper site for Years 11-15). The site the successful candidate will lead will be allocated according to the successful candidate knowledge, skills and experience.
Alderwasley Hall School was graded as Outstanding in July 2022, and has continued to develop its curriculum and provision since then. It enjoys an excellent reputation locally and nationally. The school’s priority is to provide the young people with access to a relevant curriculum (academic or holistic) combined with multi-disciplinary therapeutic interventions ensuring our students fulfil their academic, social and communication potential.
You role will be varied and exciting, overseeing attendance, behaviour, engagement and EHCP provision amongst other areas; and leading across the whole school in an area of strength. Previous experience in an SEN setting is not essential, but a willingness to learn and engage in reflective practice is essential.
If you have an outstanding track record as a senior or middle leader together with the determination to maximise the opportunities available then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment. Applicants must be confident, positive and committed to leading and supporting a variety of professionals within a multi-disciplinary therapeutic environment.
You will need a ‘can-do’ attitude that can inspire and engage students and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. The role needs a compassionate and strong leader who can hold staff to account whilst being accountable yourself. Above all, you will share the passion and belief that children and young people, their learning and developing their potential are at the heart of all decisions.
We are committed to safeguarding those in our care – the successful candidate will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS check and will be subject to thorough background checks.
