Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist Blood Transfusion (BT) Training Officer
An exciting opportunity has come up within the East and South East London (ESEL) Pathology Network, for an enthusiastic Training Lead who shares our vision of a high-quality transfusion service and invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced Band 7 Biomedical Scientists, or a Band 6 already with experience of fulfilling a Training Lead role and is keen to move their career in that direction.This role is offered on a fixed term contract for 9 months .
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with extensive knowledge and experience of working within a Pathology laboratory. Previous experience of blood sciences training, familiarity with the requirements of ISO15189 and working within the regulatory requirements of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is essential.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be required, with support from other training lead, to efficiently manage the training and competency assessment of new and current Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and MLA staff in Blood Sciences, be responsible for the documentation and management of electronic training records. Be responsible for the implementation of training programs for all grades of staff in including Specialist registrars, STP and HSST students and apprentices.
Provide continued professional development opportunities for both registered and non-registered technical staff, audit and assess the compliance of staff in line with regulatory body expectations, as well as maintain the training status of the Blood Transfusion and Haematology laboratory, in line with the IBMS standards. The successful candidate will be provided post related training, and support.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
