Job Title : Cover Supervisor (Ad-hoc) Location : Derby, Derbyshire, UK Job Type : Ad-hoc, Temporary Start Date : Immediate Job Description: We are currently recruiting a reliable, motivated, and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join secondary schools in Derby on an ad-hoc basis. As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged, on task, and manage their work effectively. This role offers a flexible working schedule and the opportunity to work across different schools and subject areas, making it ideal for those seeking part-time, occasional work in education. Key Responsibilities: Supervise Pre-Planned Lessons : Deliver and supervise lessons across various subjects, ensuring students follow the lesson plans set by the absent teacher. Classroom Management : Maintain discipline and order within the classroom, ensuring students behave according to the school’s policies and continue their learning with minimal disruption. Support Student Engagement : Assist students with their work, ensuring they understand the tasks set and encouraging them to participate in lessons. Monitor and Report Student Progress : Keep track of student progress during the lesson, offering support where needed, and report any concerns (behavioral or academic) to the appropriate teacher or leadership team. Safeguarding and Welfare : Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, adhering to the school’s safeguarding protocols. Provide Administrative Support : Assist with any administrative duties related to the class, such as handing out materials, collecting work, and organizing group activities. Flexibility : Be available to work on short notice for various cover shifts, adapting to different year groups, subjects, and school environments as required. Requirements: Experience working with secondary school-aged students (ages 11-16), preferably in an educational or supervisory role, though not essential. Strong classroom management skills : Ability to maintain control and a positive learning environment, ensuring students stay on task and engaged. Good communication skills : Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students and staff. Proactive and adaptable : Willingness to work across a range of subjects and year groups, and to adapt to different teaching styles and environments. DBS Check : Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one). Professionalism : Punctual, reliable, and able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Organizational skills : Ability to follow lesson plans and manage classroom tasks efficiently. Desirable Skills: Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role within a school setting. Specialism or interest in specific subjects (e.g., Maths, Science, English, or Humanities ), though not essential. Experience working with students with special educational needs or challenging behavior. A First Aid qualification is beneficial, though not required.
